Benefits of "Step" training

The “Step” is one of the most versatile pieces of workout equipment and quite possible one of the most underutilized.

Back in the 90’s, the platform “Step” changed the workout world. It took working out on the floor, think 80’s aerobics, to literally elevating the workout. Basic moves performed with a platform ranging in heights.

Using a platform lifts the heart rate and breathing and strengthens muscles. It adds intensity as it engages the lower half of the body, which is comprised of large muscle groups. These large muscle groups contribute to increased calorie burning.

Moves typically performed on the floor, such as a push-up, lunge or squat, can be performed on the bench in an uneven stance/position changing the dynamic of the move. The same with basic marching rhythm of the feet or jumps. There can be performed with the platform increasing the intensity of the moves; such as Basic Step, V-Step, Over-the-top.

Some of my favorite move using the platform...

- 2 Jacks on the floor, Box Jump on the platform

- Touchdown Jack

- Over-the-top

- Backward-stepping Lunge

- Uneven Pulse Squats

The moves are simple, yet effective. They drive the heart rate up and give us a serious fitness boost providing total-body engagement.
